Recently, I had the profound privilege of sitting down with a few people and listening to their stories of obedience. It was amazing to hear the different ways they heard from God and how they were challenged to take big steps of faith, often times only knowing a small portion of what God was calling them to do.
While each story was different, there was a familiar thread. (A thread that my family knows very well.) Each person’s story started with the pursuit of a relationship with God and a desire to hear from Him. But it wasn’t just a desire to hear from Him, it was also a desire to do what He told them to do; to be obedient.
In my experience, that’s exactly how God works. He provides just enough information for you to take the next step and then waits to see what you will do with that information. The longer I walk with God, the more I understand how important it is to trust Him. [To trust God, you have to know God. To know God, you have to read His Word.]
If you want to go on an obedience journey with God, all that’s required is a heart that wants to hear from Him and the willingness to say “yes” to whatever He tells you to do or wherever He tells you to go.
In my obedience journey, God told me to write a book (details of that book are in the Resources section of this blog). It took me longer than I anticipated and definitely challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone, but it was worth it. And my family’s obedience journey has taken us to crazy places, including changing careers and learning to fully trust God to provide all of our needs (Philippians 4:19).
Perhaps like my family, or the individuals who shared their stories with me, you have a story of obedience to tell. If so, I’d like to hear from you. I am looking for people who are willing to share their stories of obedience. My goal is to learn from each story and to include them in my next book, The Obedience Revolution.
If you have a story to tell, please send me an email at deana@obediencerevolution.com or click on the Connect With Us link in the upper right hand corner of the blog. I look forward to hearing from you.
