A consistent part of my morning routine involves spending time with God in prayer, reading my Bible, and listening to His voice. Some mornings I wake up with a song in my head and will ask God what He wants to speak to me through that song. Most of the time, it connects to something God wants to reveal to me in His Word.
Recently, I awoke with the song “The Truth,” by Megan Woods, running around in my head. When I asked God what He wanted to speak to me, I heard the following…
Lies. Noise and distraction. The lies we allow to steal our joy and peace; our freedom and accessing the Heavenly realms.
Truth is, freedom is only found in one place. In the eyes of our Father God. In the loving gaze of the One who died to set you free.
They say that ‘the eyes are the windows to your soul.’
They say, ‘We become like what we behold.’
Where is your gaze? Where have your eyes fallen?
The little fox spoils the vine.
Abide in Me as I abide in you for apart from Me you can do nothing. No Thing.
Where has your gaze fallen? Where have the little foxes gotten in?
Sure up your fences. Restore your gaze. Make preparations for a visitation from the Father.
Each day when I wake up and go to my favorite spot to spend time with God, there are countless distractions. Dogs clamoring for my attention or the sound of footsteps upstairs. Kids waking up earlier than usual or the feeling that I should check my work email just in case… You get the point.
If I’m honest, the actual noises and distractions in this life are nothing compared to the noise in my head; the thoughts or mindsets I’ve allowed to live rent-free in my soul.
When I feel like there’s so much noise living rent-free in my head. Heaven finds me in a still small voice and it sounds like grace instead. (lyrics from “The Truth” by Megan Woods)
I think we can all relate. We know the truth and yet we find ourselves believing the lie. Why?
The truth is I am my Father’s child. I make Him proud and I make Him smile. (lyrics from “The Truth” by Megan Woods)
In Song of Songs 2:15, we read about the little foxes that spoil (or raid) the vine.
You must catch the troubling foxes, those sly little foxes that hinder our relationship. For they raid our budding vineyard of love to ruin what I’ve planted within you. Will you catch them and remove them for me? We will do it together. Song of Songs 2:15 (TPT)
The sly little foxes are the compromises hidden deep in our hearts; the lies we believe; the mindsets we allow to take up space in our minds and whisper words counter to the Word of God. They are the places in our hearts where we haven’t allowed Christ to shine His light of glory, revealing our brokenness. The foxes keep the fruit of the Holy Spirit from growing within us. They seek to destroy what Father God has planted inside of us. They seek to rob us of our original design.
I don’t belong to the lies, I belong to You. And that’s the truth. (lyrics from “The Truth” by Megan Woods)
What lies, noise, or distractions have you allowed to interfere with your ability to clearly hear God’s voice? Those lies will keep us from fully experiencing God’s love for us if we allow them to. They will keep us from growing good (Godly) fruit.
I encourage you to spend some time meditating on this verse and asking God to reveal the little foxes in your life. Then ask Him to help you catch and remove the little foxes from your vineyard (your heart). Ask God to help you sure up the fences around your vineyard and tell Him that you want to bear good fruit in your life. Then listen for His response and TAKE ACTION; do what He says.
